Lately, the simple command to just be still has been haunting me. What a statement! You see, there is so much society can gain from our lack of stillness, so there is a constant, aggressive vying for our attention by media and news companies, political parties etc. The more we fret, the more we turn from the Lord to other things for our peace, whether it is food, or music, or movies, etc. I, for one, have for the longest time, been a stress eater. This ricochet between weight gain and weight loss during periods of chronic stress was very much a reality for me, and despite the peace I was sure I would find in the Lord, one thing I was not willing to do was be still. I got my validation from constantly moving. Constantly doing. Constantly hearing. Yet the gentle command of the Lord remains to simply be still.
